Mission Statement
St. Mark
Community Center provides support for the educational and social needs
of school-aged youth and their families.
History
St. Mark
Community Center was formed in 1988, when a group of community leaders
came together with the goal of creating a community center out of the
former St. Mark Lutheran Church. St. Mark Community Center is located
in the complex on the corner of 12th and Locust Streets. The
Center is located in a Jackson Historical Neighborhood.
Soon after the Center opened, renovations began. Substantial
improvements have been completed in the interior of the Center. These
improvements were made possible by community support in raising nearly
$400,000. Since then, the Center has developed an array of programming
and services that target children and families. In addition, over 18
groups meet at the Community Center on a regular basis, and many more
use the facility for special events. The building is available for use
seven days a week.

Job
Opportunities
The Center is looking for a certified teacher and para-professionals for the 2009-2010 school year. St. Mark’s provide before and after-school programs according to the District school calendar at Fulton, Audubon and Prescott schools. Experience working with at-risk children is preferred. Team worker and schedule flexibility is necessary! The Center is also looking for a part-time curriculum writer/educator for the up-coming school year, who will help write lesson plans for a new transition program for students from Marshall and Lincoln schools as they move up from elementary school to middle school. After writing the curriculum plans/lesson plans this person gets to try them out with the students in these schools. A parent component is also needed.
